Resources for teachers, by teachers

By Tim Wilhelmus

One of my favorite ways to curate the web is via Symbaloo, a web 2.0 tool that allows the user to create webmixes of their favorite sites. The tool is easy to learn, and it’s free.

There are all kinds of reasons to like Symbaloo webmixes. First, they are very customizable. You can create custom buttons to represent each URL you would like to add. Also, you can have multiple webmixes to represent each of your separate needs. I use one webmix as a home screen so that I don’t have so many tabs open in my browser. I use others to organize all of my resources around particular topics. You can also share your webmixes so that others can explore your resources. And Symbaloo also has a version of its service that is exclusively for educators if you want to add even more classroom functionality.

Now, not only is Symbaloo a great web tool, it is also a fantastic app that is available in the Google Play store. You can download either the Symbaloo app or the SymbalooEDU app. Either will work with a basic Symbaloo account.

The app looks and works great on the Xperia tablet, and I love having it there as a quick means for getting to my favorite websites without having to type or search.

If you are looking for a curation tool that is highly functional, visually pleasing, and that you can take with you on your tablet, Symbaloo is a great way to go!
