Newton’s laws of motion help us understand how objects in the world move around us. Through these apps students of all ages can understand the basics of physics and the comprehension skill of cause and effect.
First I would allow students to time to explore and play with the apps. Several are listed below. Then I would introduce Sir Isaac Newton and his laws of motion. I would have loved to have him come to my classroom, but that is impossible. So here’s an easy to understand Newton’s Laws of Motion website created by Georgia Louviere that I would use with elementary students.
After learning about Sir Isaac Newton and his First Law of Motion. I would have the students discuss where they found this law of motion in their apps. Have the students show the app. Then have them tell where they find this law of motion in “real life”.
Repeat this for Newton’s second and third laws of motion.
You may also want to do the hands-on Hot Wheels Lab and Balloon Racers with your students. Your students could create a video of the hands-on activities using the built in camera on the Sony XperiaTM Tablet S. They could also use the Coach’s Eye App to explain what is happening in the video.
Apps to use:
Cut the Rope Feed the candy to the little monster while learning physics. Watch out, it’s addicting. Even my 2 year old grandson can use this app. From the creators of Angry Birds.
Where’s My Perry? is a physics puzzler game where you use water in different forms, ice, steam and liquid to solve the puzzle.
Amazing Alex Another game from the creators of Angry Birds. Alex creates amazing solutions with chain reactions. This app also allows students to create their own amazing chain reactions to solve problems.
Sprinkle is a physics water puzzle. This app has really cool water graphics and is an exciting and challenging game. Learn about the power of water by moving objects in the game.
Angry Birds requires logic, skill and force to solve the challenging physics situations.
Sony's Education Ambassadors volunteer their time and knowledge to Sony in the pursuit of helping educators adapt to new technology in the classroom. Each SEA member was provided a Sony Xperia™ Tablet to evaluate, to help them better understand the device’s features.
